01554_archeology_dig.JPG04/07/2008Demolition of Wakefield Open Market (92 images)
Barely a week has passed since the old market site closed in Wakefield, and already the demolition teams have moved in. The open market was first, removing the pitches and creating a huge pile of metallic rubble. Meanwhile, workmen have been clearing the old meat market and appearing with everything from old fridges to roll-ends of carpet. On the other side next to the Elizabethan gallery a Victorian wall has been discovered - a (possibly) previously unknown extension which is being investigated by an archeological team from Sheffield University.

The usual Monday beer-up in Wakey.
02254_si.JPG23/06/2008Beers With Si in WF1 Bar (9 images)

06886_cryer_and_stott.JPG23/06/2008First Day of the New Market Hall, Wakefield (46 images)
The new market hall has finally opened, albeit with only half the outdoor stalls. The traders only got access today and it showed, with some stalls lacking power - the electricians were omnipresent. However, Mark the Greengrocer was there, as were Cryer & Stott and some of the traders who were moving over. A good cafeteria too, run by the folks who used to have the burger van on the old market!
06823_closed_sign.JPG21/06/2008The Final Day of Wakefield Market Hall (21 images)
This is the last day you can get into the old Market Hall in Wakefield - and even then I had to blag it a bit to get these photos. The final market traders were moving out, nowhere was open, and the open market had already temporarily been moved to the precinct. The new Market Hall opens on Monday apparently.
02135_old_wakefield_market.JPG14/06/2008New Market Hall, Old Market and Marsh Way, Wakefield (27 images)
The new market hall opens in a week's time, and more of Marsh Way car park had been demolished. Already some of the area had changed since my last visit earlier on in the week - some more market stalls had disappeared as had the old burger van. Not long to go now!
06667_reflex_nightclub.JPG09/06/2008Trinity Walk Redevelopment, Wakefield (28 images)
The Trinity Walk redevelopment in Wakefield where the old Marsh Way multistorey car park is being demolished to make way for new shops, the new market hall which opens on 23rd June, and the old market which will soon be demolished.
01110_eleanor_frances.JPG07/06/2008Grandma Rowbottom's 28th Birthday Party (57 images)
We held a big family party at Wrenthorpe for Grandma, who was turning 28 for the umpteenth time wink Our cousins from Northumberland came down, various friends and family I'd not seen in years, and of course the usual suspects. Brian had arranged a curry for everyone so our front room got turned into an Indian restaurant courtesy of Red Chilli II in Wakefield, and it was fine enough for everyone to sit outside. Then the day rounded off with a glass of Scotch and a good session on GH3!
01918_james_si.JPG30/05/2008Out at O'Donoghues with Si and James (8 images)
Some healing end-of-week pints of Deuchars IPA in O'Donoghues, Wakefield.

Some photos of the Fotopic office after the dust had settled.
01668_si_trellis.JPG12/05/2008Joel & Si In Wakefield (5 images)
We'd got to go have a drink at Pitchers exclamation then had enough and went to Harry's to discuss the next stage of the DDF.
06193_ben_ellie.JPG11/05/2008Sunday Morning Walk in Thornes Park, Wakefield (50 images)
A very hot morning where we went for a walk in Thornes Park, sat on a log and ate ice-creams from Lumbs.

01544_joel_si_caps.JPG09/05/2008Wakefield Cathedral Old Choristers Annual Dinner (27 images)
The annual dinner for Wakefield Cathedral OCA, taking place at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Wakefield. Me and Si were the only ones of our era around save for Nicholas Whitaker (who blanked us - rough boys!). The after-dinner speaker was David Hope, former Bishop of Wakefield, Bishop of London and Archbishop of York - very good to see him after so long (both me and Si sang at his enthronement in the early 80s). After the dinner we went exploring a bit and went up to to the school museum where we found some caps and got a bit loud.

01318_podd_can_smeg.JPG26/04/2008Wakefield Acorn Computer Show, Cedar Court (41 images)
The annual Acorn show at Wakefield. I seemed to be the only 8-bitter there this year, demonstrating the Domesday Project and some other interesting bits and bobs.
05943_peculiar_blue.JPG25/04/2008Peculiar Blue at O'Donoghues, Wakefield (6 images)
Duet 'Peculiar Blue' at O'Donoghues pub in Wakefield - again, poor lighting but there's some nice ones.
05502_mattb.JPG16/04/2008Antonio Lulic at Harry's Bar, Wakefield (32 images)
Singer/songwriter Antonio Lulic playing live at Harry's Bar in Wakefield. He was a little late due to train trouble so Ryan covered for him, but once Antonio arrived it was well worth the wait. Note: Lighting is pretty poor in Harry's so many of these are B&W and sometimes quite grainy - but I think that adds to it!
05331_si.JPG11/04/2008Telegram Sam at O'Donoghues, Wakefield (68 images)
Principally a Marc Bolan/T-Rex tribute band but with other 70s hits performed well, I took along the 30D and photographed this band at O'Donoghues in Wakefield. Nice red feather boa there!
00860_tut_and_shive.JPG05/04/2008Demolition of the Tut'n'Shive, Wakefield (4 images)
A pub where I spent many a happy night in my 20s, now being demolished to make way for more quality rip-off car parks.

Experimental electronic rock band Vessels, supported by some other local bands at Escobar in Wakefield.
00715_mikes_computers.JPG02/04/2008Wakefield Acorn Computer Group 25th Anniversary (15 images)
Throughout the years it's been known as Wakefield BBC Micro User Group, Wakefield Acorn Computer Group, and Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club - but in its many incarnations it's gone on for 25 years (I first attended in 1985!). I took along the Domesday Project setup which got quite a bit of interest.
00677_gardron_stacey.JPG29/03/2008Stacey's Birthday Beers at O'Donoghue's, Wakefield (28 images)
Sambuca-swilling Stacey turned up for her own beers, with some new friends too. 'Grumpy Old Men' were playing O'Donoghue's so there's some photos of them too.
00575_nicky_ben_ellie.JPG22/03/2008Shopping in Wakefield (10 images)
Some shopping, lunch at Ye Olde Fish Shoppe on Brook Street, and stuff.

04674_norks.JPG21/03/2008Welsh T Band At O'Donoghues, Wakefield (81 images)
Terry was on form playing some excellent blues! It was one of *those* nights including an incident with a harmonium and a logical analysis of Stacey's breasts. Ow, my head!
000613_alice.JPG17/03/2008St Patrick's Day at O'Donoghue's, Wakefield (41 images)
Our friends Ryan and Alice were playing at O'Donoghues for "Not St Patrick's Day". Landlords Janet and Brian were most welcoming, and Meg was working the bar - just like old times biggrin Nicky's on the 400D, Joel's on the G9.
00119_ben_spiderman.JPG08/03/2008Wakefield Festival of Food, Drink & Rhubarb (13 images)
Visiting the festival in Wakefield Precinct, including the food demonstrations and stalls. Ellie wanted to read the gravestones outside the Cathedral - we found the stone of Luis Fernandes, one of Wakefield's foremost 18th-century brewers!
00281_beermat.JPG21/02/2008Out With Si At Harry's Bar (6 images)
Drunk debauchery, sort-of celebrating Harry's being crowned Pub Of The Year by Wakefield CAMRA.
04389_wakefield_market_hall.JPG15/02/2008Wakefield Market Hall (6 images)
Some pics taken in the original 1960s Market Hall before it gets replaced by the new building. Many stalls are now empty, and there's very little custom up this end of town nowadays.
00500_ellie_cake.JPG10/02/2008Ellie's Sixth Birthday (92 images)
She woke us up around 8am to open some prezzies, then we went to Nando's in Wakefield for lunch. Her party was at the Crazy Firehouse in Normanton - an odd playcentre but really quite good. Finally back to Wrenthorpe for more presents smile
